Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant

The Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant serves to acknowledge military service and the contribution of veterans and their families. The Covenant is supported by:

These provide the opportunity for Australians to identify veterans when they are not in uniform or wearing their medals, and offer respect to them and their families.

Certificate of Appreciation

Veterans or a family member can apply for a Certificate of Appreciation that is issued as a national gesture of thanks for military service. More information on how to apply for a Certificate of Appreciation can be found on the DVA website.

Defence Honours and Awards

The Defence Honours and Awards website provides a wide range of information on:

  • Australian Defence Honours Awards and Recognition policy
  • applying for medals that you may be eligible for but have not received
  • how to apply for a list of previously issued awards of deceased relatives.

Veterans or holders of a deceased family member’s medals are entitled to one replacement set of medals, where a replacement set has not already been issued.
